THE GOALIE EDGE: 3/17/2014 primepucks.com Mon 3/17/14 2:12 PM
ALL GOALIES ARE CONFIRMED UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED AT THE TIME OF PRINT
There are only 4 matches tonight but each game will pit an established goalie against an upstart or a goalie that is gathering momentum and if they can keep that momentum going. First up we have Darcy Kuemper of the Minnesota Wild heading into Boston to take on Tuukka Rask (LIKELY) and the Bruins. The Bruins sit atop the Eastern Conference and are sporting one of the hottest lines in the NHL right now while Kuemper's Wild have been playing a stingy defense and are 6-1-3 in last ten games. Kuemper is 6-0-2 and is 12-4-4 overall and has been a godsend for the Wild this season as Harding & Backstrom have been lost to injuries. This is a true test but the B's have the home ice advantage and one of the top elite goaltenders in the NHL in Rask....Next up we have Eddie Lack who showed the Vancouver Canucks that he had what it takes when he served as a backup to Roberto Luongo. Well, we all know Luongo was dealt at the trade deadline, the starting job falling into lack's lap. Lack will have to prove to the Canuck faithful that he can carry the load. Lack will face Ben Bishop (LIKELY) and the Tampa Bay Lightning on back-to-back nights. Bishop has come into his own this year as he has 31 wins with a 2.10 GAA and a .929 SP. Bolts should have no problem with the road-weary Canucks....Al Montoya is a dependable backup goaltender but with Ondrej Pavelec sidelined for at least another game, the Winnipeg Jets playoff hopes are riding on Montoya's skates. He has a tough task ahead of him as he goes against Ryan Miller and the St. Louis Blues. The Blues are atop the Western Conference and Miller has given the team the consistent net minding that they were desperately lacking. Miller is 6-0-1 with tremendous metrics (1.70 GAA & .932 SP). The Jets are trying to keep their playoff hopes alive while the Blues try to pad their NHL point lead....Phoenix Coyote G Mike Smith (LIKELY) tonight will go for the ninth straight start against Jonathan Quick and the Los Angeles Kings. With Smith improving his game since the O-break and the Kings being the stingiest club in the NHL, a win by Smith would go a long way for the Coyotes making the playoffs this year but the Kings are 8-2-0 and peaking down the stretch.
FANTASY MUST STARTS:
Ryan Miller, St. Louis vs. Winnipeg
Jonathan Quick, Los Angeles vs. Phoenix
Ben Bishop, Tampa Bay vs. Vancouver
SLEEPER:
None.
DAILY GOALIE PICKS:
Steve: (85-52) Ben Bishop

Injury: Quick (illness) is a game-time decision. dailyfaceoff.com Sat 3/15/14 2:56 PM
Quick did not practice on Friday and he was absent from the Kings' optional morning skate. It sounds like Martin Jones will get the start tonight and Quick may not be healthy enough to back-up.
Goalie Start: Quick leads the Kings onto the ice for warmups. dailyfaceoff.com Fri 3/14/14 12:56 AM
Quick gave up two tallies on 27 shots in Sunday's 4-2 victory in Edmonton. Quick has been ridiculous as of late. He has won six straight starts while only allowing six goals on 138 shots (.957 SV%). He is as hot as they come right now and is a must-start when he's between the pipes. He will see his former backup Jonathan Bernier across the rink tonight.

Quick stopped 17 of 18 shots in a win over the Canadiens on Monday. He has now won three straight with a 0.67 GAA and .971 SV% since the Olympic break wrapped up. Tonight he will go four his fifth straight victory when the Kings travel to Winnipeg. They added Marian Gaborik on Wednesday, a move that should help provide Quick with more goal-support.
DAILY PRIME- MARCH 4, 2014: WHAT ABOUT BOBBER? primepucks.com Tue 3/4/14 8:35 AM
Relatively quiet heading into the last 2 days before the trade deadline with Brandon Pirri heading South to Florida the only other significant trade so far beside the Ryan Miller deal to St. Louis. Expect the domino effect to take place once the next trade goes off. This could be a very busy trade period coming up.
Four games on the ticket last night and all four were nail-biters with each one being decided by a single goal. Sergei Bobrovsky (28/29 SV) was the key in the Columbus Blue Jacket victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Bobber made quite a few huge saves to preserve the lead and eventually the win. The Jackets' defense also played a significant role in the victory. If the Blue Jackets have any chance of making the dance in April, they will need this kind of goaltending from here on out. It's gonna be tough, but for now Bobrovsky is answering that question.
After missing a few games to a minor injury, red-hot Tyler Ennis returned and scored both Buffalo Sabre goals in their 3-2 loss to Kari Lehtonen and the Dallas Stars. Ennis had been on fire before the minor setback, but it looks like he is ready to pick up right where he left off. Grab him quick, as we had mentioned in Monday's ADD'EM and in February 26th's DAILY PRIME.... Another Sabre to perhaps take a chance on is winger Matt Moulson. Moulson has been rumored to be on the trading block ever since he was acquired early in the season from the NY Islanders. On the right team, Moulson can be explosive. He picked up two assists in last night's game.
Dallas Star LWer Ray Whitney has been quiet all season long but with 2 assists last night just might be showcasing his talents for a playoff contender who needs veteran scoring help. The Wizard may be worth a flyer if you have room on your roster.
Darcy Kuemper seems to having the time of his life with another victory, this time over the Calgary Flames, to raise his record to 11-3-2. The upstart goalie has been a godsend since injuries to Harding and Backstrom seemed to have hamstrung the Wild but Kuemper has come to the rescue. Don't be surprised if Minnesota trades for a veteran goaltender just in case.
Wild C Mikael Granlund had 2 assists in the win and looks to be coming on lately. Granlund is a good breakout candidate for next season. Granlund was mentioned in one of the UNDER THE RAYDAR article dated January 31st.
Kings goalie Jonathan Quick continued his excellent goaltending with a 2-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens. Quick only saw...

Quick stopped 24 of 25 shots in a 3-1 win over the Hurricanes on Saturday. He has been excellent in two starts since returning from the Olympics. In wins over the Canes and Flames he has posted a 0.50 GAA and .980 SV% with one shutout. Tonight he will get the call against the Habs who are 2-0-1 since the Olympic break.
