He now has 10 points in 18 games. And that goal pace would actually deliver Loops 30 goals IF he can stay healthy. That won't happen, but right now, Lupul is doing everything he can to showcase his sniping. He'll likely be gone at the deadline and that should help his fantasy value. Be patient.

It's about time. Loops had been sitting at four points (three goals, one assist) in his first 10 games, but he's far more talented that that. Now, Lupul has seven points, including five goals, in 11 games and that would foreshadow a career year, at least in goals. Use him while he's healthy. Just stating the obvious -- the guy has a first-aid kit strapped to his derriere.

Lupul was the best Leaf skater on the night, who was finally rewarded for his five shots on goal when he beat Henrik Lundqvist with 1:51 left in the game. The 32-year-old has quietly ripped off 25 SOG in nine games this season, so an uptick in goal-scoring could be on the horizon if he continues to throw so much rubber on net.

Lupul's tally four minutes into the third period held up as the game winner in what was Toronto's first victory of the season. Lupul has now scored in consecutive games so hopefully it's a sign of things to come for the 32-year-old, who was limited to a very disappointing 21 points in 55 games last year.

Lupul is fit and healthy, and ready to put last year's frustrating season behind him. He arrived in camp with 10 extra pounds of muscle after working out with a new trainer this offseason. "Hopefully that [muscle] turns into some more speed and explosiveness on the ice," he told the Toronto Sun.

EDGE Analysis

The new trainer comes with a reputation for innovative methods and has worked with several players in the NHL, NFL and MLB. And coach Mike Babcock is hopeful the new regimen will keep the injury bug away from the oft-hurt winger. "When you work as hard as he did off the ice this summer, you're way more likely to get more (good) fortune injury-wise." Loops is 32 and his best years are in the rearview mirror. But he's still a talented player and can be a fantasy steal for an owner willing to absorb the risk.

One game after scoring his first goal in 2015, Lupul delivered a lacklustre performance against the Blue Jackets on Wednesday, finishing minus-2 in a 5-0 loss. There's a website for epic fails and Lupul's season has got to be there. Then again, so does the Leafs'. He'll enter next season at age 32 without a full season under his belt since 2006-07. Plan an avoidance strategy right now. Yikes.

Lupul ended a 17-game point drought, picking up an assist in Monday's 2-1 loss to the Wild. Lupul was finally able to get back on the scoresheet for the first time since Feb. 3, giving him 20 points on the season. A nagging knee injury could be partially to blame for the extended cold spell, but the fact that it took him nearly two months to record a single point should scare away most owners.

Lupul was held off the scoresheet again Thursday in a 4-1 loss to the Sharks. His point drought now sits at 16 games and he notched his last goal in 2014, some 21 games ago. Park his carcass on your bench and let him deal with the splinters. Or better yet, kick him to the curb and let someone else get a waiver priority on him. They can have the headache.

Lupul was held off the scoresheet Saturday for the 14th consecutive game. He mustered one shot and was minus-one in a 4-1 loss to the Canucks. Ouch. He has no goals and two assists, both of which came in the same game, in his last 18 contests. He's absolutely ice cold right now and should be frozen to your bench.

Lupul will return to Toronto's lineup to take on Winnipeg Saturday, Chris Johnston of Rogers Sportsnet reports.After missing four consecutive games with a knee injury, Lupul will make his return to the Leafs' lineup Saturday against Winnipeg. Lupul has tallied 19 points and 68 SOG through 32 games with Toronto this season.
