MacDonald gave up two goals on 35 shots in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Habs. It appears as if MacDonald has topped Karri Ramo for the starting job... At least for the present. He will go head-to-head with Martin Brodeur tomorrow and if the Flames continue to play well, their goalies might become somewhat valuable.

NHL IN 30-2013/14: CALGARY FLAMES primepucks.com Sun 9/1/13 8:05 AM

With the face of the franchise Jarome Iginla being traded away last March, it signaled the beginning of a full rebuilding mode for the Calgary Flames. With veterans Jay Bouwmeester and Alex Tanguay also being dealt, plus the expected retirement of goalie Miikka Kiprusoff, many new faces will have an opportunity to step for Calgary in 2013/14. Fantasy owners should look elsewhere, but a promising pool of young talent bodes well for the team's future. Under coach Bob Hartley, the transition to a more puck-possession game will allow young first round picks, such as Sven Baertschi and Sean Monahan to develop quickly, but whether they can become fantasy-impact players remain to be seen. GM Jay Feaster's under-the radar signing of ex-NHL goalie Karri Ramo can prove to be the answer to Calgary's long-term goaltending concerns, but fantasy expectations should be scaled down, as the 13/14 version of the Flames could be marginally fantasy relevant at best. Goalies Assuming that long-time starting goalie Mikka Kiprusoff sails away to the sunset, newly-signed Karri Ramo will have the first crack at the starting job. The 27-year old failed miserably during his first NHL stint for Tampa Bay, compiling an 11-21-10 record with a 3.35 GAA and a .895 SP. He fled to the KHL in 2008/09, where he had four strong seasons playing for Omsk Avangard. Returning back to the NHL, the question remains whether Ramo can build on his KHL success and deliver promising results for his new team. There is strong sleeper potential here, as Ramo should be draftable in most leagues. Fantasy owners should temper their expectations, as the defense protecting him figures to be less stout and experienced with Bouwmeester now gone. An anemic offensive attack won't help his cause, either. As for journeyman Joey MacDonald, he could battle for some starts in the early going, but is probably relegated to back-up status. His 8-9-1 record last down the stretch was underwhelming, plus he has never started more than 49 games in an NHL season and has never reached the 15-win mark. Swiss import Reto Berra can figure quickly in Calgary's big-picture goalie plans, but still needs to adapt to the North American game. Defense Youngster T.J. Brodie turned many heads late last season, after the Jay Bouwmeester trade gave him the chance the move up the depth chart. He recorded 6 points in 15 April games, including four on the power-play. More impressively, the 23-year old averaged 23:26 minutes per games and was ...

No farewell for Miikkaa Kiprusoff tonight as MacDonald will start for the Flames. I don't think his numbers are really necessary. The Flames are bad, the Blackhawks are really good. It could not be more black-and-white, don't start MacDonald. If you think they can pull out a miraculous win that can win you the championship by starting MacDonald, then more power to you!

Goalie Start: Joey MacDonald gets the start for the #Flames tonight. dailyfaceoff.com Thu 4/25/13 2:56 PM

MacDonald allowed just one goal on 35 shots in a win over the Wild on Sunday. He has won four out of his last five starts, but he has a tough matchup vs. the Blues tonight. Not someone you can trust at this point in the season.
