Hofer assumed the starter's reins for Team Canada partway through the tourney and never looked back en route to a gold-medal win Sunday. He put up five wins, including one by shutout, and boasted a .932 save percentage and 1.60 GAA. Hofer returns to the Western Hockey League where he bricks up the net for the Portland Winterhawks. There, he sports a 20-4-2 record with a gaudy numbers -- 1.81 GAA and .937 save percentage.

The Blues selected Hofer in the fourth round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, and his development is on track to make an impact at the NHL level in the future. Hofer has been spectacular with the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL this year, registering a .937 save percentage -- the best in the league -- and 1.81 GAA en route to a 20-4-2 record. The 19-year-old will now get a chance to showcase on an international stage.

Hofer went 15-29-1 in 48 WHL appearances split between Swift Current and Portland this season. The 18-year-old figures to spend another year or two in juniors continuing to develop his game. The Winnipeg native was selected in the fourth round of the 2018 NHL Draft and will probably need some time in the minors as well before getting a shot in the NHL.
