Thornton signed a one-year, $700,000 contract with Toronto on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Jumbo Joe will be back for a 23rd NHL season, having spent the past 15 years playing with the Sharks. In 1636 appearances, the veteran center has racked up an impressive 420 goals and 1089 assists. Thornton has also logged 179 playoffs contests in which he racked up 133 points but is still looking for his first Stanley Cup championship.

Thornton is expected to suit up for Swiss team HC Davos on Saturday, Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Thornton had been practicing with the team but will now officially join the team for game action. This doesn't change Jumbo Joe's plans to return for another NHL season, though he still needs to find a landing spot for the 2020-21 campaign. At this point in his career, the veteran center figures to slot into a bottom-six role yet should still be capable of putting up 30-40 points.

Thornton continues to train with Davos HC in Switzerland, though he hasn't logged any games yet, Kevin Kurz of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Thornton racked up five goals and one assist in his last 10 games prior to the league going on hiatus. The veteran center will need to sign a new deal with the Sharks if he wants to return for the 2020-21 campaign. If this is the end for Jumbo Joe, he will hang up his skates following a 22-year NHL career with Boston and San Jose that featured 420 goals and 1089 assists in 1636 career games.

Per Kevin Kurz of The Athletic, Thornton is in Switzerland and could opt to play there this fall prior to the 2020-21 NHL season.
EDGE Analysis
Jumbo Joe regularly spends offseason time in Switzerland with his family, so this seems like a logical scenario to help him stay in game shape given that the Sharks won't return until December, at the earliest. Kurz also relayed that Thornton will start skating soon but doesn't have any plans solidified regarding where he might suit up next. The 41-year-old is a pending unrestricted free agent, so there's no guarantee that his next NHL game will be in a teal sweater, either.

Thornton plans to keep playing following the 2019-20 campaign, Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Despite his advanced age, Thornton has remained a solid middle-six option for the Sharks this season, notching seven goals and 31 points while averaging 15:30 of ice time in 70 games. San Jose has been awful this season and likely won't be in a position to contend in 2020-21, so it wouldn't be surprising to see Jumbo Joe suiting up for a new club next year.

Thornton potted a power-play goal on two shots, dished three hits and added two PIM in Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Avalanche.
EDGE Analysis
Thornton has netted three goals in his last five games. The veteran center is up to 30 points, 76 shots on net and a minus-16 rating in 69 contests. The 40-year-old Thornton should remain in a top-six role, especially if Logan Couture (undisclosed) is forced to miss time.

Thornton scored a goal on three shots in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Wild.
EDGE Analysis
Thornton scored at 9:08 of the third period to cut the deficit to one goal, but the Sharks were unable to equalize. The 40-year-old center has notched four of his six goals this season in his last seven outings. He's up to 29 points, 73 shots on goal and a minus-14 rating in 67 contests overall.

Thornton scored a goal on three shots and added two blocked shots in Saturday's 5-0 win over the Penguins.
EDGE Analysis
Thornton's pass attempt late in the third period deflected off of Penguins defenseman Jack Johnson and into the net for the Sharks' fifth and final goal of the game. It was also Thornton's fifth tally this year -- he's up to 28 points, 69 shots and 32 PIM through 65 contests. It's highly unlikely the 40-year-old center comes anywhere near last year's 51-point output, but Thornton's offense could be worth a look in deep formats.

Thornton scored two goals Saturday in a 3-2 loss to the Rangers.
EDGE Analysis
Jumbo Joe hadn't scored in his 14 previous games. And it was his first road goal in 2020. Thornton has admitted it's tempting to get traded to a contender. After all, he's in his 22nd season and is yet to win it all. Some of the rumored destinations include Boston, Colorado, Tampa Bay, Dallas and Pittsburgh. Thornton's fantasy value is negligible -- four goals and 27 points in 61 games just don't make a dent in most leagues.

Thornton posted an assist, a shot on net and a minus-1 rating in Monday's 5-3 loss to the Panthers.
EDGE Analysis
Thornton's going to fall well short of his 16-goal, 51-point campaign in 2018-19, but he's starting to contribute more with a promotion to the top six after a slew of major injuries. The 41-year-old has generated six helpers over the last eight games. Logan Couture (ankle) isn't far from returning, but there's a chance Thornton won't be around to get demoted, as there have been rumbles that he could be on the move to a contender ahead of the Feb. 24 trade deadline.
