Thornton continues to await results from an MRI he underwent, but Wednesday general manager Doug Wilson announced that Thornton's injury is to his right MCL and that he will miss "several weeks", Kevin Kurz of The Athletic Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
Jumbo suffered the injury in the overtime period of Tuesday's game against the Jets, and the team will be holding its breath with the hopes that the MRI doesn't turn up anything serious. San Jose will sorely miss Thornton for however long his absence lasts, especially considering that he had scored nine points in his last seven games and 20 points in his last 21 contests prior to going down.

Thornton underwent an MRI after getting hurt in overtime against the the Jets on Tuesday, Kevin Kurz of The Athletic Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
Thornton struggled to make his way off the ice and immediately headed into the locker room after sustaining an apparent knee injury. Fans and owners alike will be eagerly awaiting the results of his MRI, but his status versus the Rangers on Thursday should probably be considered questionable, at best. Even if everything comes back fine, the Sharks may decide to shut the veteran down until after the All-Star break, just to be safe.

Thornton scored a power-play goal and had an assist in Sunday's win over the Ducks
EDGE Analysis
Thornton is usually known for his playmaking, but the veteran center has now scored in five of his last six games. He's been consistent with his production all season long, racking up 13 goals and 35 points in 46 games. He won't keep scoring at this pace, but the 38-year-old is showing that there's still plenty of gas left in the tank. He makes for a safe fantasy play in the majority of formats.

Thornton scored a goal and added two assists in a 6-5 overtime victory over the Coyotes on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Since his last multi-point game on Dec. 21, the grizzled veteran had just one goal and two points in seven games. Hopefully this outburst coming off a bye will get Thornton going again. With nine scores, he already has more goals than last season, but he is barely on pace for 60 points. Thornton has been a point per game guy for his entire career, but then again, the expectations should probably change because he is 38 years old.

Thornton produced two goals and an assist -- all on the power play -- in Thursday's 5-4 overtime triumph over Vancouver.
EDGE Analysis
Thornton's lack of speed rarely allows him to get into scoring position at even strength, so it's no surprise that five of the 38-year-old's seven goals this season have come with the extra man. The skillful passer's been a serviceable contributor with 25 points in 33 games, though his minus-1 rating in this one dropped Thornton's season mark to an ugly minus-9.

Thornton contributed a power-play goal, a power-play assist and an even-strength assist in Thursday's 5-4 overtime win over Carolina.
EDGE Analysis
Thornton's team didn't produce a single five-on-five goal, scoring twice on the power play, twice shorthanded and in the three-on-three overtime session. He played a part in both power-play goals before drawing an assist on Brent Burns' overtime winner. The ageless center benefits greatly from the extra room afforded him on the power play, as nine of his 19 points have come with the extra man.

Thornton was fined $5,000 for a slash that occurred Saturday in Tampa Bay.
EDGE Analysis
Thornton has fallen as the Department of Player Safety's most recent victim as it continues its crackdown on slashing league wide. In addition to the slashing incident, Thornton had a five-game point streak snapped in Saturday's contest,

Thornton generated two assists -- including a power-play apple Friday night against the Golden Knights, but the Sharks lost 5-4 in overtime.
EDGE Analysis
Jumbo's been wildly inconsistent and this was only his second multi-point game of the season. Once an elite option, Thornton has 13 points (three goals, 10 assists) with five combined goals and assists on the man advantage through 21 games.

Thornton picked up a helper on the Sharks' lone goal in Wednesday's 5-1 defeat at the hands of the Lightning.
EDGE Analysis
While Thornton may be stuck in a five-game goal drought, he has managed to snag a trio of assists. Despite averaging 4:09 of ice time with the man advantage, the veteran has just four power-play points to show for it. Even if Jumbo Joe continues to struggle to find the back of the net, he has likely earned the benefit of the doubt and should continue to log significant minutes in a top-six role.

Thornton collected two assists with one of those on the power play in Saturday's 5-3 road loss to the Islanders, though he also posted a minus-3 rating over 19:53 of ice time.
EDGE Analysis
Jumbo Joe has five points (one goal, five assists) in his last three games, but it's hard to ignore his lackluster defensive production. His minus-4 rating to start the season -- while certainly not an egregious mark -- stands as the lowest of any forward from Team Teal, which makes us wonder just how much more the 38-year-old has left in the tank. His proficiency within the attacking zone keeps him relevant in virtually any fantasy format, yet his sluggish own-zone output has been hurting his own team.
