The NHL's top team rolls into sunny Florida, as the Anaheim Ducks will face a Panthers squad who are losers of their last 8 games. Frederik Andersen, the Great Dane Goaltender, has been stellar while Tim Thomas has not been at his best since returning from a leg injury. In those two starts for Florida, he posted a 3.56 GAA and .881 SP. OUCH! Andersen continues his magical season... After having his three-game winning streak snapped at the hands of Colorado, Braden Holtby and the Washington Caps take the show home to face the struggling Columbus Blue Jackets. Alex Ovechkin and company should be stoked to get back in the winning column. Edge to Holtby...Jonathan Quick has won 5 of the last 6 starts for the Kings, while Ryan Miller was pulled in his last start after two periods in Buffalo's lop-sided loss to Anaheim. The Sabre's defense has been very porous, leaving Miller to hang out and dry on many occasions. The Kings should have their way tonight. Go Quick.... The Isles have been playing it smart by giving Kevin Poulin a bunch of starts in place of the struggling Evgeni Nabokov. Marek Mazanec gets his first career start after relieving Hutton in the last game. We love Poulin tonight against the invisible Nashville offense.... Niemi gets the night off as Alex Stalock will be getting just his second career start. Stalock and San Jose are looking to stop their 5-game winless streak. They are bound to win a game, right? Their opponent Calgary has fallen off after a good start, so expect a big bounce-back game from the Sharks... The matchup between the Devils and Rangers pit the best of all-time (Martin Brodeur), against the best right now (Henrik Lundqvist). This could be a mild shocker, as the proud Brodeur continues to roll, even against a surging Blueshirts squad....What could turn into another goaltending duel is Mike Smith and the Phoenix Coyotes against Jaroslav Halak and the St. Louis Blues. Phoenix is having a good start to the season behind Smith, whose metrics haven't been great, whereas Halak has solidified his hold on the No.1 spot for the Notes. Notes over Yotes.....Even without the loss of Superstar Steven Stamkos, it was going to be a tough night against Carey Price (LIKELY) and the Montreal Canadiens. The Bolts may still be in shock over what happened yesterday, and now must find ways to replace the missing offense. Ben Bishop (LIKELY) has been stellar so far this season and ...
Goalie Start: Howard gets the nod tomorrow vs. Tampa Bay. dailyfaceoff.com Fri 11/8/13 2:56 PM
Howard was two minutes away from his sixth win of the season when Cody Eakin tied it up on the power-play. Dallas ended up taking it in overtime after Howard stopped 24 of 28. He has a tough matchup tomorrow vs. the red-hot Steven Stamkos and the Lightning.

The King gets the night off as Cam Talbot gets the nod against Sergei Bobrovsky and the Columbus Blue Jackets. This game has letdown written all over it as the Rangers played and beat the Pittsburgh Penguins last night. Expect some of the ex-Rangers on Columbus to have some extra zip in their step tonight knowing the Rangers played last night. Blue Jackets over Blueshirts...Kevin Poulin in net for the Islanders on the road against Justin Peters and the Carolina Hurricanes. Poulin actually has the better numbers so expect the young net minder to get some more starts over the next few games, especially if he wins tonight. Peters and the Canes did manage to end their 5-game losing streak, but it was against the somehow, inept Philadelphia Flyers. Lightning won't strike twice in Carolina. Pullin' for Poulin....Josh Harding gets another start on way to possibly solidifying the No. 1 spot in Minnesota. He's got a tough assignment against the powerhouse Washington Capitals and Braden Holtby, but The Wild's defense and Harding's goaltending will make it difficult for the Caps after having played the Islanders, Panthers and Flyers. Harding....Robin Lehner gets the call for Ottawa as starter Craig Anderson gets another night to recover. The Sens have struggled lately, winning only twice in past 8 games, and are facing Carey Price and the Montreal Canadiens, who are having some troubles of their own, losing 3 in a row. Look for Price and the Habs to rebound after a tough loss to St. Louis last time out. This has the makings of a nail-biter as the two Canadian clubs are desperate for a win. Edge to Price.....Can the Dallas Stars make it a 3-game road sweep? Not if Jimmy Howard and the Detroit Red Wings have any say, and I think they will have plenty. Kari Lehtonen played lights out in Ottawa and in Boston, stealing the extra point in the shootout in both games. Don't see that happening again. Go with Howard....The Edmonton Oilers will be facing red-hot Tampa Bay Goalie, Ben Bishop, and will have the services of Taylor Hall back in their lineup. Devan Dubnyk (LIKELY) is not having the kind of start the Oilers had been banking on, and even though he did get the win last game out versus Florida, he will have a much tougher time on the West Coast of Florida. Bishop has been too solid, go with the Bolts...This will be St. Louis backup goalie Brian Elliott's third start of the season and it will be ...
Goalie Start: Jimmy Howard starts on Thursday. dailyfaceoff.com Tue 11/5/13 2:56 PM
If it were not for Howard on Monday the Red Wings would have lost a lot worse than 4-2. He was fantastic, stopping 43 of 47 shots - including numerous spectacular glove saves. He will face a hot Dallas team on Thursday.
DAILY PRIME NOVEMBER 5 2013: GREAT DANE CONQUERS THE KING; TEAM RAN... primepucks.com Tue 11/5/13 8:32 AM
I don't know what it is with backup goalies in Anaheim, but they sure know how to make an entrance into the NHL. Last year it was Viktor Fasth's incredible start to the season and this year it looks like it is Frederik Andersen's turn to open some eyes. In just his third career start and 4th appearance, Andersen is now 4-0 after a neatly wrapped 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers. Andersen stopped 32 of 33, only letting in Michael Del Zotto's first of the year get by. Del Zotto has been a huge disappointment so far this season with only 3 points, but he has been showing some promise, especially with his end-to-end rush in last night's contest. Buy low candidate?.... The Ducks will have some decisions to make once Fasth returns from a lower body injury, but with games like last night, Andersen may be getting some more starts....RW Corey Perry scored his 9th goal on the season and now has 16 points ranking him 7th in league scoring. Perry has tremendous talent, but we expect his point-per-game pace will slow down....The bright spot for the Rangers, besides Henrik Lundqvist's continued fine play after a rough start, was LW Carl Hagelin. Unable to start the season on time because of injury, since his return, Hagelin has 4 points in 4 games, calming any doubts about his ability to play. In fact, his speed is such a tremendous asset; it was surely missed from the Ranger's lineup early on in the year. Hagelin assisted on MDZ's goal, so if you are need in forward depth, pick him up while he's hot.
More Fantasy Game Notes: Detroit Goaltender Jimmy Howard played lights out last night, too bad his team couldn't muster much against Jets' backup Al Montoya, losing 4-2 in Winnipeg. The win halted the Jets' 3-game losing streak and in the process put an end to Detroit's 3-game winning streak. Montoya is clearly the obvious choice to start some more games as starter Ondrej Pavelec play has been less than desirable. If you are in need of goaltending help, take a chance on Montoya, it may be only a matter of time before he gets the starting job....Detroit rookie D Danny DeKeyser scored his first NHL goal in the loss. He should be considered for dynasty keeper leagues and monitored for any progress this season.

ALL GOALIES CONFIRMED UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED AT TIME OF PRINT
Two games on the slate tonight as we start another fantasy week....Anaheim continues their long road trip with a game against the NY Rangers, who they manhandled 6-0 on October 10th. Rangers' starter Henrik Lundqvist will look to avenge that drubbing but this time faces hot rookie Frederik Andersen. Andersen's luck runs out; expect this one to be a bit closer with the return of Captain Ryan Callahan to the lineup. The Ducks are finishing up an 8-game road trip so perhaps they are looking ahead to getting home. Lundqvist wins this one....The Detroit Red Wings are looking to extend their 3-game winning streak against the Winnipeg Jets. The Red Wings have been playing much better since their 4-game losing streak as Jimmy Howard seems to have righted the ship. The Jets may be better off with backup Al Montoya in net as Pavelec has had a rough go at it this season. Red Wings ground Jets.

Interesting matchup between Braden Holtby of the Washington Caps and Steve Mason of the Philadelphia Flyers but the Capitals will be without the services of Alex Ovechkin. Offense will have to come from someone other than the Great 8, so look for the team to struggle a little with the juggled lineup. Holtby has been inconsistent so far this season while Mason has been playing well in net for the Flyers, starting in 10 of the first dozen games. His metrics are good at 2.25 GAA with a .928 SP, so give the nod to the Philly goalie....In a home-and-home series between the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Pittsburgh Penguins, we shall see Sergei Bobrovsky open against Marc-Andre Fleury. Fleury has been playing lights out so far this season while Bobrovsky has been inconsistent. Fleury and the Pens at home is close to a lock, but will be a tightly fought match....Carolina Hurricane goalie Justin Peters did not fare so well since taking over for the fallen Cam Ward. Losing three straight and now facing the surging Tampa Bay Lightning and Ben Bishop who have won 5 of their past 7 does not bode well for Peters. . Hard to look away from the bright start of Benny & the Bolts....Young, talented Ottawa Senator backup G Robin Lehner draws the New York Islanders who have lost 2 straight and now stand at 4-5-3 on the season....Evgeni Nabokov will get the nod but it will it be enough to prevent the Sens, who have lost 3 in a row, from snapping their losing streak at home? Methinks not. Go with the Sens.....The Blues going with Brian Elliott in net as the Florida Panthers send out Jacob Markstrom...St. Louis is just too good of a team to be taken by surprise....Carey Price has been playing extremely well and is now facing a Minnesota Wild team that lost 5-1 to the Blackhawks last game out. Josh Harding gets the start after Backstrom's debacle. Harding just may be the answer to stop Price's momentum....Semyon Varlamov will be guarding the cage instead of behind it as the Colorado Avalanche head to Dallas to take on Kari Lehtonen and the Stars. Coach Roy has the Avs ready to play every night regardless of it being at home or away, so look for Varlamov to be motivated enough to put the events behind him and continue his strong play. I ‘ave to go with Varlamov in this one...Jimmy Howard and the Detroit Red Wings should have no problem disposing of the Calgary Flames who have lost 3 of 4, giving up 4 or more in...
