Per NHL rules, in order to ship Addison off to the minors, the team must have cleared his injury and activated him off injured reserve. The winger was a long shot to make the roster out of training camp, but an injury during preseason locked him onto Montreal's roster for the duration of the season. Now healthy, the Ontario native will join the Rocket, where he will likely spend the remainder of the 2017-18 campaign.

Addison is expected to require six months of recovery time after undergoing shoulder surgery Friday.

Addison suffered the shoulder issue in mid-September and tallied 43 points over 51 contests in the OHL last season. It's unlikely he will surface at the NHL level at any point in the next couple of seasons, but he will look to rejoin the action at some point in March if the timetable holds true.

You don't need to track the sport of hockey for long to understand that injuries are quite common, but this is particularly bad timing for a prospect whom, in a healthy state, would benefit from hanging around NHL talent in training camp.
