Arnott, 39, played 1,244 games over 18 seasons recording 417 goals and 521 assists (938 points). He was a one-time All-Star (1997) and he won a Stanley Cup in 2000 as a member of the New Jersey Devils.

The Rangers and Arnott had agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.6 million but that was pending a physical, which Arnott did not pass on Sunday. The Rangers are expected to still be in the market for a big UFA centerman but it won't be Arnott.

Arnott gives the Rangers more depth up the middle but is not expected to be a major fantasy contributor.
