DAILY PRIME TODAY: DEVIL-MAY-CARE ATTITUDE, BROADWAY HERO? primepucks.com Thu 12/19/13 8:26 AM
Don't look now, but the New Jersey Devils just may be finding their offense. With 18 goals in the last 5 games, the Jersey goalies are finally getting some support. Martin Brodeur, coming off a shutout, was the beneficiary of a 5-goal outburst from the Devils in their 5-2 win over the Ottawa Senators. Rookie defenseman Eric Gelinas shows no sign of slowing as he scored a goal and added an assist in the contest. Gelinas now has 15 points in 26 games matching Marek Zidlicky's output and just 1 behind Andy Greene among Devil defensemen. If the Devils offense is picking up, Gelinas just may be the one you should be picking up as well....Patrik Elias (22 pts. in 27 games) with 2 assists and Jaromir Jagr (29 pts. in 35 games) with his 12th, this one on the PP, are proving that they can still contribute at a decent clip even at their age. They are definitely the leaders on offense for the Devils and are good bottom tier forwards for your fantasy team.....Ottawa goalie Robin Lehner keeps coming up short in his bid to take over the starting job for the Senators. Giving up 5 against the Devils did not help his cause. The Senators are waiting for either Craig Anderson to regain his form or Lehner to establish himself as the undisputed No. 1. The waiting continues.
More Fantasy Game Notes: The New York Rangers have been looking for someone to step up and have a big game for them on this 9-game home stand; a home stand in which they have only won once in 6 games so far and that was against the Calgary Flames in a shootout. Everyone was expecting Henrik Lundqvist to rise to the occasion especially after signing a 7-year contract extension but he is still floundering trying to find his ‘A' game. So here they were last night against the Mighty Pittsburgh Penguins who were without the services of top stars Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang and James Neal. They were staring another loss in the face being down 3-1 late in the third when they got the unlikeliest of heroes, well somewhat of a hero, in Mats Zuccarello. Mats scored with a little over 7 minutes left in the contest to bring the Blueshirts within 1 and then assisted on the tying power play goal by Derick Brassard with just under 2 minutes left. The Rangers couldn't put anything past Marc-Andre Fleury in the shootout but the Rangers gained a much valuable point. Zuccarello now has 8 points in 8 December games. If you need a Ranger on your fantasy roster, He may be the one to have with 23 points in 34 games (9 on ...
SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE - 10/27/2013 primepucks.com Sun 10/27/13 10:03 AM
I have my coffee and ready to roll.
What happened to Joey Crabb? Where did he go?
A wild shootout in the desert yesterday afternoon. I didn't know the Coyotes had it in them. Oilers, yes. Coyotes, no.
RNH has rebounded nicely after last year's lost season.
Rob Klinkhammer is more of a wrestling name than a hockey name. It's shame he didn't score in that Edmonton/Phoenix game.
That's three games in a row with 6 SOG for David Perron. What a devil!
Speaking of the devil, New Jersey pulled an unlikely upset of the Boston Bruins last night. Or was it old-timers day as Jarome Iginla (G, 2A), Jaromir Jagr (2A), Marek Zidlicky (G) & Martin Brodeur (W) all were prominent figures in the game. Give them the day off today, pleeease!
Big shutdown night as Crosby and Ovechkin were both held without a point with Stamkos & Malkin only 1 assist each.
That Phil Kessel is something else.
Logan Couture is heating up for what should be a career year.
Antti Niemi and Tuukka Rask will surely battle until the very last day for top goaltender honors, barring injury of course.
Carey Price was terrific in net again last night, but his team couldn't gain any momentum in the game. Once Pacioretty returns, Price will get on a winning streak if he continues to play this way.
Jimmy Howard has been struggling since his return from injury. He's lost 4 in a row. Try to grab him on the cheap.
There are only 8 teams with a record under .500 in the NHL.
Johan Franzen had 7 SOG in the game against the Rangers; showing that he's not so stubborn to shoot the puck after two straight games with none.
Top shooter on the Rangers? Anton Stralman. Yikes.
Patrick Roy has done an amazing job in Colorado so far. Let's see how long this lasts.
The Sabres just can't score. Perhaps they need to change coaches again.
Poor Thomas Vanek.
The Philadelphia Flyers are turning it around and Steve Mason is finally getting the wins that he deserves. It helps that everyone is back in the lineup too.
These young Islanders are looking good so far this year: Kyle Okposo and Frans Nielsen. You know besides JT & Matt Moulson. Nielsen is tied for third in league scoring. Just thought you'd like to know that.
I think Lecavalier likes playing in Philly. What do you think?
Standings are finally forming into what they should be except I have to do a double take each time I see the Avalanche at the top of the Central.
I definitely did not expect to see a 2-1 Shootout game in the Winnipeg/Dallas game.
There are too ...
DAILY PRIME OCTOBER 9, 2013: HUGE NIGHT FOR SHARK'S ROOKIE primepucks.com Wed 10/9/13 4:54 AM
The big story surrounding the San Jose Shark's early surge has been the stellar play of Czech rookie Tomas Hertl, who has "fit like a glove" on the first line with Joe Thornton and Brent Burns. Well, he outdid himself last night after scoring his first NHL "hat trick", plus another highlight-reel goal for good measure in the Sharks 9-2 drubbing of the New York Rangers. The 19-year old now leads the entire league with 6 goals and 7 points, while sitting second with a +5 rating. It's obviously way too early to hand him over the Calder Trophy, but his early performance should not be discounted, either. This is the type of young player with "Jaromir Jagr"-like potential, that can really motivate a veteran like Thornton to keep pushing him to new heights. He is worth an immediate waiver-wire grab in all leagues, but could end up being fantasy gold in keeper formats.
Other Fantasy Notes: Roberto Luongo wins the showdown against former goalie mate Cory Schneider, stopping 21 of 23 shots in Vancouver's 3-2 OT win over New Jersey. The real fantasy star of the night was defenseman Jason Garrison, who scored the overtime goal, his third of the season, and extended his point streak to four games. He is looking very legit in the early going, but it's probably too late to pick him up.... No James Neal? No problem for the Penguins, as Jussi Jokinen scored his first career "hat trick", including two on the power-play. Even though he will lose PP time when Neal returns, it's worth noting that he has collected 14 points in 13 games since being traded to Pittsburgh. If he stays on the 2nd line, 60 pts. is a definite possibility.... Need a d-man? You were warned by us that Jamie McBain can have a fantasy impact on his new team, the Buffalo Sabres. The 25-year old scored a goal and an assist, both on the powerplay, and logged 4:24 minutes on the top PP unit. Tyler Myers has "gone south" in a hurry, so keep McBain on your radar.... John Tavares scored his first two goals and now has four points in three games, but what about that second line on Long Island? Michael Grabner, Frans Nielson, and Josh Bailey combined for 9 points in the 6-1 romp over Phoenix. I like Grabner the best out of the lot for fantasy purposes. He has 35+ goal potential.. Speaking of Phoenix, Mike Ribeiro has yet to register a single point through three games. We saw that coming. Hopefully, you read our '13-14 Fantasy Guide and did not overrate him based on his gaudy numbers with Washington last season.....

Line Change: Jagr has moved from the fifth line to the second line ... dailyfaceoff.com Tue 10/1/13 2:56 PM
Jagr did not skate very much during the preseason because of a sore hip and back, but he is good to go for the Devils season opener on Thursday. He will start on their second line as well as their first power-play unit.

Jagr was practicing on the Devils fifth line this morning, but was also working on the power-play so it remains to be seen if he will play on Thursday.

Jagr had hoped to take part in a full practice today, but Devils coach Pete DeBoer gave the team the day off, so he skated on his own instead. "The team had the day off, so I decided to skate on my own a little bit," Jagr said before joking, "I couldn't have more days off. That would be too many."
DAILY PRIME - SEPTEMBER 25, 2013: PRESEASON FANTASY BITS primepucks.com Wed 9/25/13 7:57 AM
Don't look now, but there might be a goaltending controversy brewing in New Jersey. Martin Brodeur has been tabbed as the Devil's starter, but Cory Schneider continues to play "lights out" in the crease. last night, he stopped 22 of 23 shots in the 2-1 win over the Philadephia Flyers. The goal allowed ended Schneider's 158:29 minutes streak of shutout netminding. Fantasy owners need to steer away from this murky goaltending situation, or at least know that Brodeur's undisputed position as the clear no.1 goalie will be seriously challenged by the newcomer... Claude Giroux returned to the Flyer lineup, recording an assist and playing a superb all-around game. He is safe to draft early, since he looks good to go for their season opener... Keep your eye on San Jose rookie Tomas Hertl, who continues to impress on Joe Thornton's line with two more goals. The Sharks have upped their preseason record to 5-0 and are clicking on all cylinders... Amidst all their injuries to key offensive players, the Edmonton Oilers will need to rely heavier on Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle, who collected a goal and two assists in the 5-3 win over the Rangers. Everyone is talking about Hall's potential breakout in '13-14, but don't sleep on Eberle. Great middle-round value pick in all fantasy formats.
Training Camp Update: After a successful stint in camp so far, Damien Brunner has been signed by the New Jersey Devils to a multi-year deal. He will figure prominently on one of their top two scoring lines, making him a decent late-round sleeper. Plenty of skill for the 27-year old Swede, but can he last 82 games?... Jaromir Jagr returned to the morning skate for New Jersey on Tuesday. He will need to shake off the rust and get into some live action before the real games begin.. The Toronto Maple Leafs dodged a major bullet when learning that Phil Kessel's supension will only last through the preseason. Treat him as an elite RW fantasy option, as he is on the cusp of breaking the 90-point barrier.
