More Tryouts: G Tim Thomas and RW Damien Brunner have signed tryout agreements with the Florida Panthers and New Jersey Devils, respectively. Both team can use their talents but I don't see why the players chose these teams unless there was very little interest elsewhere. Keep an eye on both situations as both could be decent contributors on needy teams.
Preseason Fantasy Bits:Milan Michalek collected a goal and an assist in Ottawa's 3-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets. With all the talk centered on the arrival of Bobby Ryan, the 28-year old Michalek has definitely fallen under the fantasy radar, but he should be remembered come draft day. Although he missed 25 games last season, he did put up 35 goals and 60 points in '11-12. Its looking like he will be lining up with Jason Spezza and Ryan, so this Senator trio could be dynamite in fantasy leagues... Another guy who just needs to stay healthy is defenseman James Wisniewski, who had a nice night for the Blue Jackets with a goal and an assist against Pittsburgh. With the added firepower in Columbus, the hard-shooting blueliner could make a serious push for 45-50 points, but he will come in undervalued in most drafts. He could be a huge bargain, so keep your eye on how he performs in camp.
Training Camp Update: Anaheim's second line in the early going consists of Nick Bonino centering Teemu Selanne and Jakub Silfverberg. For now Dustin Penner stays on the top line.. Erik Cole has been a scoring dud in his short time in Dallas, but he will reportedly get a shot on the top line with Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn. Interesting. If that doesn't get him back to 30+ goals, nothing will... Cory Schneider will be getting the first start for the New Jersey Devils in pre-season action. Don't read too much into this, but if you are to be banking heavily on Jersey goaltending this season, you probably need to own both him and the future HOFer Marty Brodeur.

NHL IN 30-2013/14: DALLAS STARS primepucks.com Sat 9/7/13 8:29 AM
The Dallas Stars believed that if they brought in some veterans to the club, that it would help the Stars reach the playoffs after missing out on the big dance the previous 4 years. 40 year-olds Ray Whitney & Jaromir Jagr couldn't help bridge that short gap of just missing the playoffs the previous three years. Jamie Benn's holdout at the beginning of the season didn't help either. Nor did the shortened Lockout season, but every team was in a similar situation. The Stars just weren't aligning for Dallas, especially after a 3-6 start. Glen Gulutzan out. Lindy Ruff in. Veteran Head Coach Ruff was brought in for the inexperienced Gulutzan after the season was over. Ruff should help transform the also-rans to a more cohesive group. What also will help is the trade of under-rated LW Loui Eriksson. The main returns were Boston Bruins C Tyler Seguin & RW Rich Peverley. The Stars got the better player in the deal, but only if Seguin can keep his office discretions to a minimum and play up to his massive potential. They acquired veteran Shawn Horcoff from the Edmonton Oilers. Dallas gains a hard-working vet who brings his consistent game night-in and night-out, although his numbers didn't show it. Edmonton's loss is Dallas' gain.
Goalies
Kari Lehtonen is the Stars' starting net minder and will see the majority of the starts. Richard Bachman, last season's backup, now plays in Edmonton. The team brought in established backup Dan Ellis to spell Lehtonen on occasion and if the starter should go down to an injury, as has been the case in his career, then the club will call up Cris Nilsorp from the AHL to man the nets with Ellis. When healthy, Lehtonen will start between 60-70 games and give you a decent GAA and SP, his average being 2.71 and .914. His best season was just two years ago when he sported a 2.33 GAA and .922 SP. The Stars goaltender will get you somewhere in-between those sets of numbers. Steady 1B goalie.
Defense
The Stars had been hoping to catch another defensive gem from Pittsburgh like they did with Sergei Zubov back in 1996, but Alex Goligoski has never shown the brilliance that is expected of him. The Stars decided to bring in Sergei Gonchar in hopes his offensive prowess will rub off on the younger Goligoski. Expect to see both on the top power play and you just might see Gogo eclipse the 40-point barrier. Gonchar will chip in with some offense but don't expect him to return to his glory days of the Washington Capitals and ...
DAILY PRIME TODAY: CENTRAL DIVISION- OVERRATED, UNDERRATED primepucks.com Wed 8/21/13 8:52 AM
Chicago Blackhawks:
Overrated: Brent Seabrook
One 40+ pt. season in his 8-year career. Will most likely lose top power-play time to Nick Leddy
Underrated: Patrick Sharp
Prior to injury-plagued 2012/13 campaign, scored 67 goals in two seasons. Consistent scoring threat.
Colorado Avalanche:
Overrated: Erik Johnson
Still waiting for the former overall no.1 pick to live up to his potential. Huge fantasy bust.
Underrated: P.A. Parenteau
His 43 points in 48 games proved he doesn't need John Tavares. Borderline point-per-game producer
Dallas Stars:
Overrated: Alex Goligoski
Don't get me wrong. Should be a lock for 40, but this d-man is not consistent enough to warrant fantasy elite status
Underrated: Jamie Benn
Move to wing and chance to play with Tyler Seguin could result in breakout season
Minnesota Wild:
Overrated: Dany Heatley
No longer the sure-fire 40-50 goal scorer, but has settled in a decent secondary threat. Parise is clearly the Wild's best LW. Period.
Underrated: Mikko Koivu
Not an elite point-producer, but could flourish while playing with Parise in Year 2. 70-75 point upside if he stays healthy.
Line Change: As expected Benn returned to the lineup Saturday night. dailyfaceoff.com Sun 3/17/13 12:56 AM
Get him off your bench.
Injury: Jamie Benn skating this morning. Looks good. dailyfaceoff.com Sat 3/16/13 2:56 PM
Benn skated again this morning and looked good according to Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News. Benn will be a game-time decision.
Injury: The Dallas Stars had an optional skate in Frisco on Friday.... dailyfaceoff.com Fri 3/15/13 7:56 PM
Benn, who skated at one end of the ice with assistant coach Paul Jerrard, wasn't shooting any pucks during his time on the ice. He is questionable for tomorrow's game against the Chicago Blackhawks at American Airlines Center.
Injury: C Jamie Benn (wrist) officially out tonight vs. #NHLDucks, ... dailyfaceoff.com Thu 3/14/13 2:56 PM
Benn will miss his second straight game with a wrist injury tonight. The Stars struggled vs. Nashville without Benn on Tuesday, so they could be in tough again tonight vs. a tough Ducks team. There is no timetable for Benn's return.
Injury: Jamie Benn doubtful for tomorrow. dailyfaceoff.com Wed 3/13/13 2:56 PM
Benn's injured wrist kept him out of last night's contest and it will likely keep him out tomorrow. Monitor his status tomorrow for a more accurate report on his availability.
Injury: Jamie Benn unlikely. dailyfaceoff.com Tue 3/12/13 2:56 PM
Benn does not have a broken wrist or concussion but he is still unlikely for tonight's game vs. Minnesota. Consider him day-to-day.
Injury: Jamie Benn doubtful with wrist injury, no concussion. dailyfaceoff.com Mon 3/11/13 2:56 PM
While the concussion is great news, the wrist injury is worrisome. Might not be the worst idea to bench Benn if you are in a weekly league. Daily league should continue to monitor his situation as he is doubtful for tomorrow's game.
