Allen stopped 35 of 36 shots in Wednesday's 2-1 win over Edmonton.

Allen was 110 seconds away from a shutout when Edmonton's Jame Neal lit the lamp late in regulation. Still, it was a terrific performance for Allen, who hasn't allowed more than three goals in a start since Oct. 19. Allen and the Blues will kick off a three-game road trip Saturday in San Jose.

Allen will patrol the crease during Wednesday's home game against the Oilers, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.

Allen was a little shaky in his last start Dec. 10 against the Sabres, surrendering three goals on 31 shots en route to his fourth loss of the season. The 29-year-old backstop will try to bounce back in a home matchup with a Connor McDavid led Edmonton offense that's averaging 2.79 goals per game on the road this year, 14th in the NHL.

Allen allowed three goals on 31 shots in a 5-2 loss to Buffalo on Tuesday. The Sabres scored a pair of empty-net goals in the final minute of the third period.

EDGE Analysis

Allen suffered his first regulation loss away from home in this one and is now 5-2-2 in 10 appearances in 2019-20. He's been a reliable option in fantasy this season, as Tuesday's loss was the first time Allen had allowed more than two goals against since Nov. 15.

Allen will be in goal for Tuesday night's contest in Buffalo, Tom Timmermann of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Allen is 5-0-2 in seven road starts this season and will be looking for a sixth victory away from home when the Blues battle the Sabres in Buffalo. He's yet to win a game at home in 2019-20, but Allen has been nothing shy of sensational in road contests.

Allen relieved starter Jordan Binnington in the first period of Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Maple Leafs. He allowed one goal on 16 shots.

Allen is a much better back-up than starter. This was the first time he'd ever had to relieve Binnington. But St. Louis is among the league's best, so Allen does have value as a spot starter.

The shutout was his first of the year and the 20th of his career. He hadn't maintained a shutout since Mar. 7, in a 4-0 win over the Kings. Allen improved to 5-1-2 with a 2.35 GAA and a .926 save percentage in eight games. He's not likely to wrangle the starting job away from Jordan Binnington, but Allen is becoming a very capable backup netminder.

Allen will provide a breather for Jordan Binnington against a banged-up Blackhawks team that will dress only 11 forwards and six defensemen due to a combination of injuries and a lack of salary cap space. The backup goalie is 4-1-2 this season, and he's coming off his best performance of the campaign, in which Allen stopped 31 of 32 shots to beat Dallas last Friday.

Allen and Ben Bishop were locked in a goaltending battle for a large portion of the game, but the Blues struck twice in the third period to take the win. Allen improved to 4-1-2 with a 2.68 GAA and a .914 save percentage. He's still going to see limited starting opportunities by Jordan Binnington, but Allen is becoming a fairly solid backup behind a strong team.
