DAILY PRIME OCTOBER 26, 2013: LETANG IS BACK, GETZLAF SCORES, ENROT... primepucks.com Sat 10/26/13 8:37 AM
The big news last night in the NHL was the debut of Pittsburgh defenseman Kris Letang. Letang missed the first 9 games of the season with a lower body injury. Letang was thrown right into the mix as he played 8:14 minutes on the power play. While he did not score last night, he is one of the top fantasy defensemen in the league. This is bad news for the Penguins Matt Niskanen as Letang will take away a lot of his top ice time. Niskanen had only 2:51 minutes on the power play in comparison. This past week we said to pick up pick up Islander forward Frans Nielsen, and he did not disappoint yesterday with a goal and 2 assists. Nielsen now has 14 points, including 6 goals in 10 games this season...Columbus came to life against Toronto with a 5-2 victory. Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky had 23 saves for the Blue Jackets, and he is beginning to look more like the guy who won the Vezina Trophy last year. His 2.44 goals against average and .921 save percentage are pretty solid. Brandon Dubinsky had a goal and an assist for Columbus, but he is more of a waiver wire type player.
More Fantasy Notes:
Big night for Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf as he had a a goal, the game winner, and an assist. His linemate Corey Perry had 2 assists as well. They both have 11 points in 11 games played this year, so they are pretty much a point per game players. The interesting linemate here though is Patrick Maroon who scored his second goal of the year while playing on the line with Getzlaf and Perry. If he sticks on that line he could be worth picking up...With Tim Thomas on the IR the Panthers were forced to use Jacob Markstrom in goal, and he continued to disappoint losing to Buffalo 3-1. Markstrom's numbers are just awful this year with a 1-4-1 record a 3.27 goals against average and a .886 save percentage. Thomas is expected back soon, so he should get the most of the starts when he returns. Sabres goaltender Jhonas Enroth had a great game with 44 saves. Considering how much Ryan Miller has struggled this year, Enroth may take away a lot of Miller's starts. The problem is that Buffalo is just not that good a team.
Steen the dream:
So far this has been a miracle year for St. Louis forward Alex Steen who had a goal and an assist in the Blues loss to Vancouver last night. Steen has started the year on fire with 8 goals and 13 points in only 8 games played. He has never displayed this type of scoring before, he had only 27 points last year in 40 games, and he is probably a good ...

Markstrom will start his first game since October 15th, when he allowed four goals on 30 shots in a losing effort vs. Nashville. The last time Tim Thomas went down with an injury, Markstrom didn't play great, but he has a solid matchup vs. Buffalo tonight -- He is risky, but it could work out.

Markstrom allowed three goals on 29 shots in a 3-0 loss to the Kings on Sunday. After a great performance in relief of Tim Thomas, Markstrom has struggled. In three starts since becoming the starter, he has one win with a 3.25 GAA and .897 SV%.

Goalie Start: Markstrom will start tomorrow vs. Tampa Bay. dailyfaceoff.com Wed 10/9/13 7:56 PM
After Tim Thomas left yesterday's contest with a groin injury, Markstrom came in and was excellent in relief. He turned aside all 25 shots he faced, but the Panthers could only get one passed Steve Mason. He will be the starter as long as Thomas is out, but the injury is not expected to be long term.
DAILY PRIME- OCTOBER 6, 2013: GOALIES GALORE & THE KID LINE IS ALRI... primepucks.com Sun 10/6/13 10:03 AM
It was a big night in the NHL yesterday with eleven games played. First some individual news; Buffalo goaltender Ryan Miller sat out last night's game against Pittsburgh with a lower body injury. He is considered day to day....Columbus forward Cam Atkinson has been promoted to the top line, and he will play with Marian Gaborik and Brandon Dubinsky. Marc-Andre Fleury continues his good start allowing only 1 goal last night with 20 saves against the Sabres. Fleury has given up only one goal in two games. While they were admittedly against two teams that will likely struggle to score goals this season, New Jersey and Buffalo, still he looks good....Florida goaltender Tim Thomas came back to earth yesterday as he allowed 5 goals on 28 shots against the Blues. He was replaced by Jacob Markstrom who was no better giving up 2 goals on 6 shots. Thomas will quickly discover that the Florida defense is not comparable to the Bruins.
And The Children Shall Lead Them:
Last year young Montreal center Brendan Gallagher started on the top line between Max Pacioretty and David Desharnais. This year he finds himself on a line with two other youngsters, Lars Eller and Alex Galchenyuk. Last night this line was pure magic as they combined for six points against the Flyers, with each player getting two points. Gallagher didn't quite fit in last year on the top line, but he looks right at home with his young linemates. Keep an eye on this line as they could really develop into something special. They are all young and very talented.
Wild Night In Minnesota:
It was a wild game in Minnesota last night as the Ducks prevailed in overtime on a last second goal by Mathieu Perreault with literally only 5 seconds left in OT. Perrault had the goal and an assist, but he is not really fantasy worthy. The good news for the Wild was that their top line was outstanding all game long. Winger Zach Parise had two goals, while Jason Pominville had a power play goal, and Mikko Koivu had an assist. This could develop into one of the top lines in the NHL. Unfortunately for the Wild they do not have a lot of scoring depth behind this line.
Other Fantasy Game Notes:
St. Louis goaltender Jaroslav Halak pitched a shutout last night against Florida. Halak was rarely tested and he had only 19 saves, but this start is not going to hurt his chances of seperating himself from Brian Elliott in the race for the starting goaltender for the Blues. He should get the next few starts at worst. St. Louis...
