Vesey will be relegated to the bench for Friday's game against the Penguins, Steve Zipay of Newsday reports. The rookie "had (an) off night in San Jose and that's being polite," said coach Alain Vigneault.

EDGE Analysis

The 2016 Hobey Baker winner from Harvard skated to a minus-2 rating in that game against Team Teal -- precluding a 5-4 overtime loss -- and evidently the bench boss is none too pleased with Vesey's play. However, since the report adds that the 23-year-old will be on the playoff roster, this seems to be nothing more than a young phenom enduring growing pains in an attempt to fulfill lofty expectations. It's unclear if he'll sit beyond Friday's game, though.
