The Detroit Red Wings have called up Joey MacDonald. The Red Wings needed a third goaltender because starter Jimmy Howard isn't expected to travel with the team to Columbus. Howard's wife gave birth to their first child on Sunday and he's expected to stay in Detroit rather than accompany the team for their one-game road trip. MacDonald will probably warm the bench while Ty Conklin plays between the pipes.
