The Canucks traded McCann, a 2016 second-round pick and a 2016 fourth-round pick in exchange for Erik Gudbranson and a 2016 fifth-round pick Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
The Canucks were in desperate need of a tough big-bodied defender, and were willing to part with one of their more promising young forwards in order to acquire him. McCann tallied 18 points (nine goals, nine assists) in a bottom-six role over 69 games with Vancouver last season, but he's only 19-years-old, and has the potential to develop into a solid top-six forward for the Panthers. The Ontario native was hampered by an undisclosed ailment at the end of the 2015-16 campaign, but there's no indication that injury will prevent him from being ready for next season's training camp.
