The Avalanche and John Mitchell have agreed to a three-year contract extension. No terms were released. Mitchell will now be in a Colorado uniform throught the 2016-17 season. Mitchell is a grinding two-way center who should play on the Avs' third line. He is a much better hockey player than fantasy one. That said, executive vice president of hockey operations Joe Sakic was thrilled to get Mitchell's signature on a contract. "John is a proven NHL player who has been a very good addition to our team the past two seasons," Sakic said in a release. "He can play in different situations and we feel his presence and his versatility will continue to strongly benefit our team moving forward."
