Steve Mason held his own in Columbus' 3-2 loss on Wednesday. Mason stopped 23 of 26 shots, but Blue Jackets coach Todd Richards, who was critical of his team overall, felt his goaltender did better than those numbers suggest. "(Mason) was great," Richards said. "I'm sure if you talked to Steve he'd say the Koivu goal (1-0) can't go in. But after that, he was tremendous. The saves he made ... I could go on and one with the chances. He kept it there." All the same, Mason has a 3.71 GAA and .880 save percentage in three games this season. Sergei Bobrovsky has put up far better numbers, but the ideal situation is one where you're able to avoid the Blue Jackets' goaltenders entirely. Two netminders splitting duties on a well below-average team doesn't lend itself to fantasy value.
