Stepan suffered a fractured fibula during his conditioning test Wednesday and has been ruled out indefinitely, Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record reports.
Stepan will remain under evaluation by doctors Wednesday, with an update on a potential recovery timetable likely to be relayed later in the day. The fracture is believed to be inter-related to the foot contusion he suffered while blocking a shot during an informal skate Sept. 9. Evidently, the foot ailment was more serious than the Rangers had thought, and they'll now likely be without Stepan's services for quite some time. The 24-year-old can safely be bumped down a few notches on the cheat sheet as a result of the injury, but unless the Rangers end up ruling him out for the season, it's probably still worthwhile to stash him on the bench until he's deemed healthy.
