Smith will receive the start in goal Thursday against the Jets. Smith was dump-trucked for six goals in Tuesday's blanking at the hands of the Blues, but it won't prevent coach Dave Tippett from desperately standing by his franchise netminder, who has looked anything but the part this season. Incidentally enough, Smith's struggles really began in the opener against Winnipeg, who also overwhelmed him for six goals. Smith can't be counted on to come through with a strong performance in the rematch.
