Sean Monahan, who is out at the moment with a broken foot, won't play in the World Juniors regardless of his injury status. "We have spent a great deal of time discussing and debating the pros and cons of the situation in the context of what is best for Sean's continued professional development as a hockey player, as well as what is in the best interests of our team, our fans, and our organization," Flames GM Jay Feaster said. "We have concluded that in light of the prominent role Sean has played on our team to date, and the role we project he will continue to play once he returns from his injury, that Sean will remain with our hockey club." Before Monahan suffered his current injury, he was getting a solid amount of ice time and had rewarded the Flames with 15 points in 24 games. Playing in the tournament would have allowed Monahan to serve as a leader on a team with high expectations, but it's certainly not surprising that Calgary wants him to stay in the NHL.
