Matthews scored two goals on seven shots in Monday's 4-3 overtime win over the Hurricanes, but he left the game late in the third period with a lower-body injury. Per Terry Koshan of The Toronto Sun, head coach Sheldon Keefe had no update on Matthews' status after the contest.
EDGE Analysis
Matthews tallied twice in a span of 3:21 late in the second period to give the Maple Leafs their first lead Monday. Keefe added that Matthews would have received Tuesday off from practice anyway due to the center's busy schedule at the All-Star Game this past weekend. With that in mind, there may not be an update on Matthews' status until Wednesday. The 24-year-old has been in fine form lately with 11 goals and nine assists in his last 13 appearances. He should be considered day-to-day for now, with the Maple Leafs' next game scheduled for Thursday in Calgary.
