Schmidt (head) skated without a non-contact jersey at Thursday's practice, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports. With Schmidt no longer facing any limitations after taking a hit to the chin last Sunday, he'll attempt to make a final push for a roster spot. Though he won't play in Thursday's preseason tilt, he's expected to be ready to play in Sunday's exhibition finale against the Hurricanes.
