Savard signed a five-year, $21.25 million extension with the Blue Jackets on Tuesday, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports. The deal will go into effect beginning next season and runs through 2020-21.
EDGE Analysis
The 24-year-old Savard earned the massive deal on the heels of his breakout 2014-15 campaign, during which he ranked second on the Blue Jackets in defenseman scoring with 36 points, while also setting career highs in goals (11) and ice time (22:56 average). Savard is expected to remain on the Jackets' top defensive pair with Jack Johnson again, and could be just scratching the surface of his offensive potential.
