Ruhwedel is expected to get a call from the Sabres with Andrej Meszaros (hand) hurt, reports Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald.
The 24-year-old former UMass-Lowell standout has 31 points in 59 games with AHL Rochester but has yet to dress for the Sabres this season. A dependable two-way player and one of the Amerks' best, Ruhwedel will likely slot in on the third pairing, if he plays. Though he has contributed offensively for the Amerks, don't expect him to do much of that with Buffalo where he's expected to worry about playing solid defensive hockey first. In 28 career NHL games he has one assist, so the upside for Ruhwedel is minimal, especially this season with the Sabres being the league's worst team. Ruhwedel may get some time on special teams but won't be a huge factor in either. Ruhwedel's call-up comes with Mark Pysyk (heart) and Zach Bogosian (lower-body) considered day-to-day.
