Gustafsson was released from his professional tryout offer by the Islanders on Sunday, Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic reports.

Lebrun adds that Gustafsson is expected to sign a contract with the Blackhawks, with whom he put up 60 (!) points in 2018-19, but the deal has yet to be formally confirmed. The 29-year-old blueliner didn't produce anywhere near that level in 29 games with Montreal and Philadelphia last season (12 points), but he could make for an interesting flier option in deeper formats once his new role with Chicago becomes clear.
