Peter Budaj turned aside 34 of the 38 shots he faced in regulation and overtime before he and the Montreal Canadiens lost in a shootout to the Pittsburgh Penguins Friday night. Evgeni Malkin, the NHL's top scorer, connected for the only shootout goal to give the Pens a 5-4 victory over the Canadiens, who led by scores of 3-1 and 4-2 before allowing two goals in the third period, one by Malkin. Budaj got a rare start as the Canadiens gave first-string goalie Carey Price a rest. Price likely will start Saturday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
