Nate Schmidt scored his first NHL goal on Saturday. The rookie signed with the Capitals in April as a college free agent after not being drafted when he was of age. Schmidt had some offensive capabilities in college hockey as he had nine goals and 32 points in 40 games with the University of Minnesota in 2012-13 and now has a goal and five points in 25 games with Washington this year.
