Mitchell did not practice Tuesday due to a hip issue and may not be ready in time for Saturday's season open against the Stars, Terry Frei of the Denver Post reports.

Mitchell has been a mainstay on Colorado's roster for the last four seasons, recording 99 points in 261 contests mostly as a depth forward. He hasn't been moved to injured reserve as of yet, but that could change between now and Saturday, especially since the Avalanche won't have to cut any additional players if they change his designation.
