Minnesota native Matt Cullen will play in his 1,000th NHL game tonight when the Wild entertains the San Jose Sharks.
"It's kind of funny to think that I'm that old already," he said. "A lot of good memories. I've enjoyed every minute of it." His first shift was with the Anaheim Ducks and it lasted about three seconds. "My first game was in Maple Leaf Gardens, actually," Cullen said. "What stands out is I lost the first faceoff to Mats Sundin. Right back to the point and they shot it, the goalie saved it and then they changed. So I was off." Now a faceoff specialist who has won 54.1 percent of his draws this season for Minnesota, Cullen has 10 goals and 13 assists for 23 points to rank third in points for the Wild, who will be trying to snap a stretch of 11 losses in their past 12 games against the Sharks.
