Michael Neuvirth blanked the Winnipeg Jets in the Washington Capitals' 1-0 victory Thursday night for his first shutout of the season.
The Capitals have not been getting the steadiest of goaltending from Tomas Vokoun and after allowing four on 21 shots in the last game, they turned to the 23-year-old. Neuvirth was as cool as can be in net, kicking away 26 shots and silencing four Winnipeg power plays. The problem is, the youngster hasn't exactly run away with his opportunities when given a chance, either, as the win only improved his record to 4-5-1 to go along with a 3.38 goals-against average and .885 save percentage. The Caps play the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday, so it will be interesting to see whether coach Dale Hunter sticks with the hot hand or returns to the veteran.
