Meszaros will serve as a healthy scratch for Tuesday's game against the Hurricanes. Signed to a one-year, $4.125 million contract in the offseason, Meszaros (one point, minus-6 rating) hasn't done much to stabilize a Sabres defense that has surrendered 131 shots in its first three games. Though Meszaros' tepid start to season is discouraging, coach Ted Nolan was careful to note that the onus for his team's struggles doesn't entirely fall on the blueliner. "Meszaros is not going to be the first casualty. We just need him playing better but we can't sit out 10 guys. We only have a limited group so nobody's safe from that position." Expect Meszaros to return to the lineup for the Sabres' weekend homestand, but his plus/minus rating will only steadily fall from here.
