Meszaros signed a professional tryout contract with the Avalanche on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Meszaros, a 10-year veteran, was a bust after inking a one-year, $4 million contract with the Sabres last season, as he produced seven goals and 14 points in 60 games while spending frequent time in ex-coach Ted Nolan's doghouse as a healthy scratch. The 29-year-old has shown average to above-average scoring ability from the blue line in the past, but with the Avalanche more in need of shoring up their defense in front of Semyon Varlamov rather than adding puck movers, it's not clear if Meszaros fits in with their plans. The Avalanche will take a glimpse at him and see if he can showcase an effective two-way game in camp; if so, he could come away with a roster spot.
