Matthews has impressed his teammates and coaches of Team North America with his poise during preparation for the upcoming World Cup of Hockey, reports The Globe and Mail.

TNA coach Todd McLellan of the Edmonton Oilers was impressed with Matthews' on-ice intelligence and his comfort level on the ice as an 18-year-old. The tournament opens later this week and Matthews will benefit from the high caliber of hockey -- playing NHL-style hockey before he steps foot on the ice at the Leafs' training camp will mean he could have a hot start to the NHL season.
