Matheson, a speedy rearguard with offensive talent, failed to latch on with the Panthers out of training camp, but he's someone to keep an eye on long-term as a first-round (23rd overall) draft selection in 2012. With the addition of Matheson, the Panthers now have the requisite six healthy blueliners as they prepare for Friday's home match against the Jets. Defensemen Willie Mitchell (lower body) and Erik Gudbranson (upper body) remain on injured reserve.
