Lecavalier announced his retirement from the NHL on Tuesday, Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Lecavalier hangs up his skates after 17 years of service time in the NHL. The former first overall draft pick (1998) helped the Lightning to a Stanley Cup in 2004 and a 108-point campaign in 2006-07. He also had stints with the Flyers and most recently, the Kings, including modest offensive contributions in the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs. A hulky center known for absolutely blasting shots, Lecavalier finishes with 421 goals, 528 assists, and 848 PIM in 1,212 career games.
