Larkin will attend Red Wings training camp and is expected to contend for a roster spot.
EDGE Analysis
The 19-year-old turned pro this spring following a huge freshman season at the University of Michigan, for whom he compiled 15 goals and 32 assists in 35 games. He ended up skating for AHL Grand Rapids during their playoff run and found immediate success, tallying three goals and two helpers in five contests. It's likely that Larkin could use a little more seasoning at the AHL level, but with Pavel Datsyuk (ankle) expected to open the season on IR, the Red Wings could be inclined to take a gamble on Larkin and his offensive upside rather than a more proven bottom-six veteran forward.
