Joe Thornton is happy he spent the lockout playing for Davos of the Swiss league. Thornton did the same thing during the 2004-05 lockout and didn't miss a beat when the NHL returned in 2005-06. "Going through it in 2004, I just didn't know when it was going to end, so I just thought pack my bags and go right away and get in shape. I'm glad I did it," Thornton said. "I enjoyed my time over there, and it was good for my wife and baby. They could see their grandpa and grandma and things like that, but we're glad to be home now." Thornton's time in Davos should serve him well going into the shortened season.
