Jake Gardiner played a strong game Friday night against the Capitals. He was a healthy scratch Wednesday night and responded very well from sitting a game in the press box. Playing alongside rooke rearguard Morgan Rielly, Gardiner had one of his best games of the season according to coach Randy Carlyle. "He skated the puck, he didn't turn it over. We know he has NHL-level skills," Carlyle said. Gardiner was rewarded with 19:33 of ice time including just over four minutes on the power play. Perhaps Gardiner is ready to turn the corner.
