And given his family's basketball background, the 6-foot-4 player might even be considered a popular guy to the seemingly basketball-first Avalanche ownership that is Kroenke Sports Enterprises, which also owns the Nuggets. After the Avalanche's 4-1 loss to the Canucks at Rogers Arena, selecting Jones with the first overall pick is looking like it's a two-team race between Colorado and the Florida Panthers. "He's a good player, but I'm not going to talk about him. It's not like he's part of our team," said Avs center Matt Duchene, who skated with Jones last summer. "That's not what we're going for. We're trying to get as high in the standings as we can."
