Matthews was suspended for two games by the Department of Player Safety on Monday for cross-checking Buffalo's Rasmus Dahlin.
EDGE Analysis
Matthews will miss out against the Stars and Hurricanes on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively, due to his two-game ban. Despite the suspension, the 24-year-old center should be a near-lock to reach the 50-goal threshold for the first time in his six-year NHL career. In addition, Matthews will certainly set a new career best in points with just three more needed to tie the 80 he put up in 2019-20. Without Matthews in the lineup, John Tavares will likely step into the first-line center role.
