Greene (back) was placed on waivers in order to buy him out of the final year of his contract, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
The decision to buyout Greene was not unexpected as Los Angeles was looking to save some cap room. The 34-year-old has played in just 29 games over the last two seasons due to injuries, so it wouldn't come as too much of a surprise if he opted to hang up his skates. If this is it for the Michigan native, he will end his career with 615 games played in which he recorded 17 goals and 63 helpers. Even if the two-time Stanley Cup champion does land with another club, it is unlikely he will offer much in terms of fantasy value. In order to place him on waivers, Greene by rule must have been cleared from his back injury.
