Goaltender Joey MacDonald, in what probably was the best performance of his National Hockey League career, turned aside 39 of 40 shots against the Avalanche in Colorado Monday night to spark the Calgary Flames to a 3-1 triumph. MacDonald, filling in for veteran Miika Kiprusoff, allowed eight goals against the Edmonton Oilers last Wednesday. He entered the game with a 3.19 goals-against average against the Avs and an .893 save percentage in five games.
