Gibson has been diagnosed with a groin injury and will miss approximately six weeks. The Ducks placed him on injured reserve and recalled Igor Bobkov from AHL Norfolk. Just as he was beginning to claw his way back into a timeshare in goal with Frederik Andersen, Gibson succumbed to the injury in pregame warmups Sunday, and will now be forced out for an extended period of time. The Ducks view the 21-year-old Gibson as their long-term option in goal, but the injury setback might prevent him from making a significant impact for the team in 2014-15. Aside from a bumpy season opener against the Penguins, Gibson had been stellar over four appearances for the Ducks, going 2-2 with a 2.28 GAA and .927 save percentage. His injury figures to give more job security to Andersen, who will need to overcome a minor leg injury of his own before reclaiming the net for Anaheim.
