Gabriel Landeskog sounded like he blamed himself for Edmonton's Andy Sutton blindside hit. Sutton elbowed Landeskog in the head and received a five-game suspension for his actions. Fortunately, Landeskog wasn't hurt. He admitted that he didn't see the hit coming, but he said that he "should have been more aware." That's probably the right attitude for Landeskog to have, but Sutton's hit was still a suspendable offense. Head hits have caused many long-term injuries and have by extension lowered the quality of the game we love. The players need to do whatever they can to defend themselves, but the league also has a major role to play in keeping hits to the head out of the game wherever possible.
