It's unclear exactly what type of injury he's dealing with, but he wasn't feeling 100 percent coming into the matchup and the Red Wings decided to keep him on the bench. Franzen sat out the entire second half of the 2014-15 season due to concussion symptoms, so he very well could be dealing with those symptoms again. Whether that's the case or not, his next opportunity to return will be Friday against the Hurricanes.
