Franzen (concussion) reiterated last week that he has no intentions of retiring and expects to be on the ice for the Oct. 9 season opener against the Maple Leafs, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
EDGE Analysis
Franzen noted that he still experiences the occasional setback while he tries to work his way back from a concussion he suffered in January, one of the many head injuries he's sustained in his career. However, the worst of the setbacks appear to have passed since the spring, and he continues to receive treatment with the hope that he'll get clearance to participate with the Red Wings when training camp opens on Sept. 18. The 35-year-old is about as risky as it gets on the health front, but when he's been on the ice, he's been a productive scorer for the Red Wings. In the 33 games he skated last season, Franzen tallied seven goals and 15 assists.
