EDGE Analysis
Matthews raised his goal total to a league-high 56. His first tally broke a tie with Rick Vaive for the most goals in a single season by a Maple Leaf, but rather than sit back and admire the accomplishment, Matthews immediately set his sights on greater heights. In overtime, he broke into the zone alone and went around all three Dallas skaters, as well as goalie Scott Wedgewood, to deposit the game-winner on his 12th shot of the night. It was a fitting ending to one of the most memorable games in what's been a historic season for the American superstar.
