David Savard saw a spike in his penalty minute totals from his first year as a pro to his second. Savard only had 18 penalty minutes in 72 AHL games in 2010-11 but his total jumped to 88 last season as he had 16 PIMs in 31 games with the Blue Jackets and 72 in 44 AHL games. Do not expect this trend to continue in the NHL as Savard is an offensively savvy defenseman and not a bruiser. He has a chance to stick with the Blue Jackets as a sixth or seventh blueliner in 2012-13 but would be better served by playing big minutes in the minors as he is still only 21.
