David Backes (foot) will play Thursday in St. Louis' playoff opener. He participated in Wednesday's practice after not skating on Tuesday. Backes missed three games to close out the regular season with a foot injury. He'll start out Thursday's contest between Steve Ott and Alexander Steen.
